School Clubs

School Clubs

At Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School we value the extension of learning after the school day ends or during break-times to promote fitness, to learn a new skill and to have fun.

There are a range of clubs run each year depending on availability of staff, expertise and interest, cost and time of year. Some are run free of charge by dedicated school staff and some are paid clubs run by outside providers. Over the years we have run a variety of sports clubs, music clubs, science, film club and archaeology clubs to name just a few. This school year we are running the following clubs:

Civic Award – Mrs H Murphy

Civic award is offered to year 6 children only. It is a junior version of the Duke of Edinburgh award. By completing the Civic Award children learn how to be responsible citizens through serving the school and local communities. They have an opportunity to develop new skills and learn to shoulder increased responsibilities. Many of the children who successfully complete the award go on to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme whilst at secondary school.
The children commit to certain activities and carry them out regularly for the school year and keep a weekly record. Meetings are held once a week on Wednesday lunchtimes to keep track of progress. The award culminates in an overnight camp. Those that are successful attend a ceremony and receive the award.

Choir – Miss S Tompkins

Choir is held once a week on a Tuesday 15:10-16:00. The group enjoy singing together and working towards various performances throughout the year. No experience is necessary to join, just express your interest to Miss Tompkins!

Seven players are selected for each team plus two substitutes. Training days vary as do match days according to the various involved teachers’ commitments. The teams will typically play 15 games in the Gosport School’s League with each match lasting 12-15 minutes per half. Matches typically finish between 16:45 and 17:15 depending on whether both the A and B teams or just the A team is playing. The children are provided with the school kit on match days but are expected to provide their own football boots, shin pads and goalie gloves (if appropriate).
